Why does ChargePoint keep logging me out?
Recent reviews strongly connect the repeated sign-out problem to the newer ChargePoint app update. Reviewers say they are being asked to re-enter email and password frequently, sometimes while trying to start a charge, and several complain that Android autofill, password managers, biometrics, or passkeys do not help. A few reviewers say issues were later fixed for them, but complaints continued after those reports.
Recent updates are horrible. Every time I use the app I have to re-log in. I am driving my car that is extremely dangerous. At least provide a method to use phone system level authentication if you're not going to leave it permanently logged it. New UI is horrible as well, it makes it hard to see what stations are in use and which are free.
It's ok but not great. the recent update has me logging in much too frequently and the login screen isn't something the Android OS can detect as a pw input so I need to copy and paste my pw now. Also doesn't seem to support passkey login at the moment.
Latest updates are terrible! Every time I need the app, it has logged me out! Furthermore, it doesn't allow username and password auto fill, so that SUPER secure one-off password comes back to haunt you. Apps like this are why "password" is the most used password. Fix the login issue, fix the auto fill.

Does ChargePoint put a $25, $50, or $75 hold on your card?
Yes, recent reviewers repeatedly report temporary authorization holds when starting a ChargePoint session. The amounts they mention vary, including $25, $50, and $75, and several say the hold can remain for days or can block charging if the card does not have enough available credit. The reviews do not prove every station or account behaves the same way, but they make card holds one of the clearest risks to expect before using the app.
I've been using ChargePoint for a couple of years, & has been a good experience. But recently, they started charging a $50. pre-authorization to my credit card for every charge session, even though I have plenty of preloaded balance on my ChargePoint Account. If you don't have $50. on your card, then it will not activate. Even if you have plenty of balance on your ChargePoint Account. & it finally happened to me. My preloaded balance is prepayment, & it's not allowing me access. Demoted to **.
they are currently holding $210 on my account for a $1.67 charge they could have by now. that is a BS pre-authorization hold not needed at all. add a 30 minute hold giving you excuses to deal with customer support to top it off. big fail charge point, all excuses no accountability and I shouldn't have to wait a week for my change
Functional, good app. When unlocking, it temporarily charges up to $50. I understand why this is necessary, but, at a minimum, Chargepoint needs to be able to issue a refund of the money immediately after charging. $50 is not a small amount to hold over the course of a couple business days..... Electrify America does this no problem.

Can you use ChargePoint as a guest or with a personal account?
The reviews are not reassuring if you want a simple guest checkout. One reviewer says the app cannot be used as a guest, and others report account-creation or account-recognition failures. A small set of reviews also describe confusion about corporate, employer, leasing, or fleet accounts. Based only on these reviews, prospective users should not assume they can arrive at a charger and use the app without account or payment setup trouble.
Horrible experience through and through. App barely works, you can't use as guest, you can't use all your money as they'll automatically (and compusorily) add funds to your balance. The chargers are extremely slow to charge and clunky to use (mostly because of the app). My recommendation is to look for an alternative, even if you have to travel a bit further. This is only a solution if it's your last resort, and in this case...good luck.
Pointless, only accepts corporate accounts
Doesn't work. It's only for special people apparently: "If your account is not set up or paid for by an employer, company, partner program or a leasing/fleet (DMS) provider, you will no longer be able to use the ChargePoint app to charge starting 30 June 2026." Well what's the point of offering it then?

Does ChargePoint show accurate charger availability?
Recent reviewers often say charger availability is harder to trust after the redesign. Complaints include stations showing available when they are occupied, status showing unknown, private chargers appearing as usable, and missing or unclear station data. There are also positive reviews saying the app provides access to many stations and free options, so the problem appears to be reliability and presentation rather than the complete absence of station listings.
you can't see from a glance which chargers are available because they removed the color coding, and even if you tap on a location it'll say 4 of 4 available even if they're all taken. you have to either filter by available or go into the individual chargers to see what's actually available. also they added a $50 hold to your payment method to charge when almost all their chargers are level 2. it would take at least 25 hours charging to spend $50, why such a high hold amount?
most of the chargers on the network are private, meaning I can't use them. if they're private, why are they shown available? I keep driving to different chargers and they're all locked behind a gate on private property
It's nice to have access to so many charging stations through this app, especially with some free options available and listed, and adding my car was easy in the latest update.

What happened to ChargePoint Notify Me and the waitlist feature?
Reviews say the availability-notification and waitlist workflow became harder after the update. Several users say group or cluster notifications were removed or buried, forcing them to select individual chargers or zoom into the map. Others describe being removed from waitlists or snoozed unexpectedly. A few later reviews say Notify Me returned or that setup is possible, but the common complaint is that it is no longer obvious or quick.
The recent update removed the ability to subscribe for notifications when a charger from a group of chargers in a location gets free. I have to manually enable notification for each charger that belongs to the same array of nearby chargers.
Updates, please tell me where in the new app I can select notify me when a station is avaiable, why did you take that feature out. Please put it back or make it easy to navigate The new update is terrible, the previous one was perfect why did you have to change? Just to get an avaiable charger notification, I need to get to two hundred steps.
after the recent overhaul of the app, it frequently logs me out and removes me from waitlists without any notice. it was more reliable before

Why won't ChargePoint accept my payment method or start charging?
Payment and session-start failures show up in several recent reviews. Users describe credit cards being rejected after previously working, payment verification failing, the app freezing, and the charger not communicating after a session is started. One reviewer says switching to Google Pay solved repeated credit-card re-entry, but other reviews show no consistent fix.
software update: looks 10 functionality 1. after the most recent update that looks so much better I mean it's gorgeous however I hate it. it charge my credit card no problem and then the next time I use it it rejects the credit card and says I can't use it again until I re-enter my credit card information. I have now re-entered my credit card information six times. the solution was to switch to Google pay. also since update I've been logged out three times.
The app cannot verify a payment method no matter how many times it's attempted - therefore it's completely useless.
At a gas station, I can just tap my CC and fuel up. In this app, I need to create an account, then have the app freeze. Clear cache, restart. Works finally. Select charger, begin charging session, and.... it can't communicate... with what I don't know. I have 5 bars of cell service. So, so, so painful. I just want to charge.

Do ChargePoint tap to charge, NFC, RFID cards, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay work?
Reviews are mixed by method. Some users report NFC or tap-to-charge errors, one says Google Pay worked around credit-card problems, one says Samsung Pay is not supported, and one praises the ChargePoint key tag as a reliable alternative to phone or card issues.
| Method | What reviewers reported |
|---|---|
| NFC / tap to charge | Reported as failing or showing errors by some reviewers. |
| Google Pay | Reported by one reviewer as the workaround for repeated credit-card re-entry. |
| Samsung Pay | One reviewer says the app does not support it. |
| RFID key tag/card | One reviewer calls the key tag a game changer; another complains about RFID card management. |
I'm giving the app 3 stars for 2 main reasons. The first is the lack of pay as you go in Canada. I don't like that it auto reloads when you hit $5 so you can never fully use your balance, which is shady at best. They really need to offer the option to turn off auto reload and manually add funds, or give us pay as you go. The second issue is that, at least on my phone, the Tap to charge doesn't seem to work. I have NFC turned on, had the app open, but just got an error when I tried to use it.
wish it would always show Charge point chargers. other chargers have their own apps. I am so glad I got my key tag that is a game changer. before I was at the mercy of my credit cards or my phone. now whoever has the car keys can just go to any charge point and tap.
Terrible app. very glitchy and doesn't support Samsung pay. MAKE SAMSUNG SUPPORT, IT IS NOT THAT HARD.

Is ChargePoint Home Flex reliable in the app?
Reviews about home charging are mixed but include serious reliability complaints. Some users say the app shows the home charger as unplugged or not charging when it is plugged in, or that connecting to the home charger became slow and finicky. One reviewer also says scheduling and history are useful, while another reports customer-service trouble with a defective home charger.
updated: wish i could give it less stars. why does it constantly require me to login everhtime i open it. no biometrics option. what a waste was maybe 2 stars before I got my own home charger. the app can't be trusted. Will tell me im not plugged in when I am, will tell me it's not charging when it should be. too unreliable.
Major login issues! I try using my email to login, but it says an account doesn't exist. Then when I create an account, it says i can't use my email. The issue is that I can't use the same email that was used for an installer account. fixed: I only use for my home charger. I cannot change the charging rate with the app. It's stuck at 40A and I should be able to increase to 60A. Scheduling works well and it's nice to see my charging history and home charging cost.
Customer Service is awful. Car keeps charging during off times. Talked and troubleshoot for the past 2 weeks. Home charger is defective and they refuse to do anything. Don't waste your money. There are other home chargers out there.

Are ChargePoint prices and fees clear?
The reviews raise several price-transparency concerns. Users mention a fee to start charging, a per-session surcharge, high kWh prices in particular cases, missing price display, and the auto-reload system preventing them from using the full account balance. These reviews do not establish one universal ChargePoint price, but they do suggest checking the station price and payment behavior before relying on the app.
This app and charging experience used to be one of the few rock solid ones out there, though I didn't appreciate their requirement that you keep a balance on your chargepoint account. They recently updated the UI for whatever reason and now the app is constantly logging me out, doesn't work with google password manager, and is failing to start a charge. Also they added a $.25 surcharge to every charger, which hurts for PHEV users! Too bad these guys are a government backed monopoly in my area.
They charge a fee just to START the charger. I will never use a Chargepoint ever again.
First non-free use was 70c per kWh. This is daylight robbery. I'll not be using chargepoint except for free charging Tried it again, Aug 2026, it is remarkably hard to use. On android, the password isn't remembered properly. After many failed attempts, it locked me out. At that point, the keyboard doesn't show up for the field to enter my email address. I have no idea why this has an average 3.9 rating. It is pretty clear that the sw team doesn't know what they are doing.

Is the new ChargePoint app update worse than the old app?
Many recent reviewers say the redesigned app looks better but works worse for the things they need at a charger. Complaints include harder navigation, hidden or removed session details, unclear maps, missing charger status, slower home-charger connection, and extra taps for waitlists or notifications. Some reviews say specific issues were fixed later, but the overall recent-review pattern is that the update reduced day-to-day usability for a lot of users.
Some things are better left untouched. The previous version was fine... not perfect, but it worked. The new version with the UI refresh constantly signs me out, is hard to find current charge status, and the map is hard to navigate. I have to click on a charger like 5 times when I'm zoomed out. Why can't it just zoom in immediately when clicking a charger? Painful experience to use this new app. I hope they make a revision. Docking another star for lack of updates to address this after a month.
Update UI looks great but functionality has gone downhill. Why an app would chose to give you less information with no way to get "the more information" back is beyond me. The graphs look better but don't show the breakdowns anymore, just the totals. Connecting and disconnecting my home charger is also a lot slower and more finicky.
Update following their response: Just go back to the old app. Why companies waste money doing "updates" which actually remove features and make things worse will never cease to amaze me. Then they do not even do adequate testing on them before releasing them. Original: The new app layout is worse. For example, the activity page use to show the column for the amount of energy added per session. Now it can only be viewed by clicking on each session to see the kWh.

Does ChargePoint work with partner charging networks like EVgo?
The Play Store description says ChargePoint can access partner providers including EVgo, FLO, Blink, and EV Connect, but at least one recent reviewer says the updated app no longer showed other networks after they saved the settings. Based on the reviews here, partner-network access may be a selling point, but it is not something every recent user found reliable after the update.
Ever since the new update, I can no longer charge with other networks. I saved my settings to other networks but they do not appear in the app. This is unfortunate because I liked being able to use my charge point app to change at Evgo.
wish it would always show Charge point chargers. other chargers have their own apps. I am so glad I got my key tag that is a game changer. before I was at the mercy of my credit cards or my phone. now whoever has the car keys can just go to any charge point and tap.
