Why can’t I log in to the SECU app after the update?

Recent reviewers repeatedly describe login problems after the update: rejected credentials in the app while the website works, required passcodes or verification texts, session timeouts, and cases where the app will not connect or load. The reviews do not show one universal fix, but they do suggest that login problems can be app-specific rather than a simple wrong-password issue.

IF IT WASN'T BROKE WHY DID YOU HAVE TO TRY AND FIX IT!!!!! This APP is the ABSOLUTE WORST!!!!! When I input the username and pw the most awesome app-NOT, keeps saying my credentials are not correct, but when I input the same login info on the website it works just fine. SECU YOU GUYS NEED TO GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD FOR THIS TERRIBLE TERRIBLE APP!!!!!!!!

since the update now instead of easily entering our pin number to QUICKLY get to our accounts, I have to enter a password. most of the time that is not the issue but 90% of the time I have to wait for a verification text to put in a code then I can finally get in. But if I wanted to take 5 minutes to check my account I would just use the website.... this update has been nothing but FRUSTRATING for me and my 16yr old.

EVER SINCE THE MAJOR UPDATE, I haven't been able to use this app at all! Not even the people at the banks can help me! I still can't get past the verification screen, because all I get is a "session timed out" error, and absolutely NONE of the recent updates have fixed it either.

Does SECU still support biometric login or PIN login?

The app description says biometric login is available on supported devices, but recent reviewers say the updated app often does not behave like the old PIN or biometric flow. Complaints include losing PIN access, being forced to use a password, biometric prompts still requiring a password and text code, and biometric login failing or reaching a limit.

I guess they're no longer allowing you to use biometrics to get into the app. because of this it's gone from 5 to 1 star. the new system is also a lot more complicated than the old version.
★☆☆☆☆SECU · 2026-07-26 · 2 found this helpful
The app technically has a biometric login, but every time I scan my fingerprint, it prompts me to enter my password for "extra security" as well as the code from my text messages. I understand more security, but it takes longer to log in, defeating the purpose. also, the back button on android closes the app, rather than backing out of a screen. added account details are nice, but it actually feels less mobile friendly (and more like a website) than the previous version.

Biometrics feature continues to fail. Logging in is too difficult.

Does the SECU app show the correct balance in real time?

Several reviewers say the updated SECU app does not show balances or transactions quickly enough for them to trust it for day-to-day account tracking. The most serious complaints say transactions take days to appear, pending activity is harder to inspect, cash deposits do not show as available immediately, and the displayed balance may not reflect what the user believes is actually available.

I don't like the new app at all. It doesn't update your balance in real time like the old app did. If falsely shows the balance when in reality that's not what you have in your account. The app doesn't load quickly and it's always having issues. I've been unable to log into this app for two days now because it's unable to connect to SECU network error code 1002. They should have never changed how the original app worked.👎
★☆☆☆☆SECU · 2026-08-01 · 2 found this helpful
TERRIBLE! Why do transactions not post in real time? It's taking days for some of them to show up. There's no way to know know your real balance now. Might as well drag out the old checkbook. This "update" regressed the app to 2000s.

this app compared to the old app seems to have gone backwards. it doesn't show cash deposits as available immediately, it doesn't have dark mode. setting up notifications is confusing.

Why does the SECU app keep crashing or fail to open?

Crash reports appear in the newer reviews. Users describe the app crashing immediately on open, stopping repeatedly after an update, or failing even after restarting, reinstalling, and clearing cache. Based on the reviews provided, this is not just a single-user complaint, and some reviewers say the app became unusable for basic banking tasks such as checking balances or depositing checks.

updated yesterday. now the app crashes every time I attempt to open it. was great before this.

Is anyone else having trouble with app stopping and will not open. I've shut down my phone, rebooted. I've deleted app and reinstalled, I've cleared cache. Nothing has worked. Called SECU, and they say they can't do nothing, for me to call my phone provider. All they can do is tell me to do the same steps I've already done. All other apps are working fine, even another banking app. So I guess no more online banking at SECU.

The latest update of the app causes the app to crash every time I try to open it. I cleared the cache, that didn't help so I uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Still crashes every time I try to open it. As of September 10th 2026 the app is unusable.

Is the SECU app compatible with older Android phones?

Compatibility is a real concern in the reviews. Some users say the updated app stopped supporting their Android device or older phone, while a few later reviews say compatibility was restored for their device after an update. If you depend on mobile access, the reviews suggest checking Play Store compatibility on your specific phone before relying on the updated app.

UPDATE: The app is now compatible with my device. I can't thank you enough for this. Now I don't need to buy a new phone!

The SECU app has been updated, and I’m happy to say it’s now compatible with my Android phone and I can log in to my bank account again. Thank you so much for restoring device compatibility! I can now conveniently check my checking account balance after paying bills and shopping, make sure I have enough for gas, and set aside money for lunch while I’m at work. This update makes managing my finances much easier. Thank you for listening and making the app accessible again!

Does SECU work on GrapheneOS or custom Android devices?

The GrapheneOS reviews are strongly negative. Reviewers say a recent SECU update blocks GrapheneOS or devices flagged by Play Integrity, with the app treating the phone as rooted or insecure even when the reviewer says it is not rooted. The reviews do not provide an official workaround inside the app.

You've pushed an incredibly recent update that is preventing use on GrapheneOS. Unfortunately that now means NCSECU is the only financial application I can't use on my phone. Please consider undoing this change, or adding exceptions. GrapheneOS is a privacy and security focused OS based on the A.O.S.P. I like the recent UI updates, but this was an awful decision.
★☆☆☆☆SECU · 2026-09-09 · 0 found this helpful
Devices that have been supported for years are now being blocked due to play integrity. GrapheneOS should not be banned. The developers should be ashamed of themselves.
★☆☆☆☆SECU · 2026-09-12 · 0 found this helpful
Have been using the app for years! Latest update blocked use of app due to "rooted phone". My phone is NOT rooted. I am using GrapheneOS, the most secure OS available an android phone. Please fix this!

Is SECU bill pay working correctly in the app?

Bill pay is specifically criticized in recent reviews. One reviewer calls bill pay a buggy mess, and another says a requested payment was deducted immediately but the check was not mailed until later, causing past-due notices. The provided reviews do not include a successful bill-pay troubleshooting path.

New app is a buggy mess, especially bill pay. I miss the old app.
★☆☆☆☆SECU · 2026-08-14 · 2 found this helpful
Since the upgrade the Billpay is almost useless. You request a payment and it takes the money from your account immediately but it doesn't mail the check for a week. What?? They're using my money free for a week and I'm getting past due notices. I'll have to start writing my own checks again. Useless!!

Can I still use mobile deposit in the SECU app?

The app description lists Mobile Deposit as a feature, but some reviewers say the update interfered with their ability to use it. The complaints are not about deposit limits or check rules; they are about being unable to access the app or mobile deposit at all because of login, loading, or crashing problems.

new app sucks can't do mobile deposit anymore pain to get on my account im considering changing banks if they can't get it user friendly
★☆☆☆☆SECU · 2026-07-30 · 2 found this helpful
I cannot open the mobile app needed to deposit checks while out of town and app kept crashing even after completing all the steps to restart, reinstall etc, very disappointed.

Why do users say the new SECU app is worse than the old app?

The redesign is one of the clearest themes in the reviews. Users say the old app was simpler and faster, while the new version feels more like the website, removes or hides information they used, lacks dark mode, has more dead space, and makes common tasks take more steps. A few users praise restored compatibility, but the redesign feedback in the recent reviews is mostly negative.

SECU has just provided yet another example of companies doing updates without factoring in how it's going to affect the user, you can't see your total balance anymore, you can't use dark mode (which is horrible for people who have sensitive eyes), you can't enter a pin anymore you have to sign in with a username and password, and the app as a whole has been slower not just on my phone but other people I know as well and their phones aren't old and my phone was just purchased this year.
★☆☆☆☆SECU · 2026-07-30 · 3 found this helpful
Previous app was much better than the new update. It was simple, clean but yet elegant in design; and easy to navigate and use. There was no need for an update.
★★★☆☆SECU · 2026-08-03 · 2 found this helpful
The recent redesign was pointless. Everything is just convoluted and looks cheap now.

What can fix the SECU “session timed out” problem during OTP?

Only one review in the provided set describes a concrete resolution. That reviewer says a SECU branch teller contacted others, online access was completely reset, and the issue was tied to a device not being listed on the account. Other reviewers still report session-timeout and verification-code failures, so this should be treated as one reported fix rather than a guaranteed solution.

  1. The reviewer went to a SECU branch after getting “Your session has timed out” while trying to receive an OTP.
  2. A teller contacted support people and had the reviewer’s online access reset.
  3. The reviewer says the underlying issue was that a device was not listed in the account.
Finally was able to get the app to work. Was getting "Your session has timed out" when getting OTP. Went to a SECU branch and the teller actually contacted people and they ended up completely resetting my online access. The issue was that a device wasn't listed in my account even though I was setup for online access.
