Is Gabbys Dollhouse: Cat Games still free, or is it behind a paywall?

The Play Store listing says Gabbys Dollhouse: Cat Games is free to download, but the recent reviews strongly warn that much of the app’s former free content is now locked behind a Piknik subscription. Reviewers say children can access only limited rooms without paying, and many parents describe the change as especially frustrating because the app used to feel much more open.

If you are installing because your child remembers the older version, expect the current free experience to be much more restricted than what many reviewers describe from before the update.

Most, if not all, of the games were available for free. Now, all but two cost money after the major update. My daughter is very disappointed.

Everything is locked behind a SUBSCRIPTION ONLY paywall, which is really hard to explain to a toddler why all the games are locked and cost $ now when it was fine yesterday. Predatory and DISGUSTING practice by a trash company that is fueled by pure greed. I'd pay for the game, not a subscription.

Update locked out 2/3 of the content. What was free to play is now subscription based. I'm PO'd, 6 year old daughter is totally bummed out. Sorry this is not worth more than Netflix...

Is Gabbys Dollhouse: Cat Games a scam or a cash grab?

The reviews do not prove payment fraud, but they do show why users are searching this question. Several reviewers call the app a “scam,” “cash grab,” or “rip-off” because content they say was previously free, unlocked through toys, or already purchased became tied to a subscription after the update.

A fair reading is that the main trust issue is the monetization change, not that the app itself is fake. Parents who dislike subscriptions for children’s apps should take the reviews seriously before installing.

they have ruined everything for this game I bought the $20 bundle for my daughter to unlock everything and now that they partnered with piknik they have locked everything behind a monthly subscription on the device I purchased the mega bundle from it says I have a lifetime access for Gabby's dollhouse and that I could link my account to use it on multiple devices but when I link it here it doesn't give me the access for the mega bundle I already purchased before it went monthly!!! scam alert!!!

used to be a fun interactive game for my daughter and now she's sad she can't access the same rooms she used to be able to before the update. very disappointing. won't be playing any of the piknik games

Downloaded this game two years ago. It was fantastic and included all the sections and my kid loved it. Now I find out it has been updated and placed most of the game behind a paywall. So disappointing. Will be deleting.

What changed in Gabbys Dollhouse: Cat Games after the Piknik update?

Reviewers describe the update as a major replacement rather than a normal refresh. The common complaints are that the app became part of Piknik, access moved to a subscription model, many rooms became locked, old mini games disappeared, and children lost progress or toy-code unlocks.

The app description calls it a redesigned dollhouse with themed rooms and daily deliveries, but recent reviewers who liked the older version generally say the redesign has less gameplay and fewer things for children to do without paying.

first half of july 2026 they completely replaced the old version 3 app with a new application, like a completely different game, made and managed by a different company. now requires a subscription model and you lose everything you had unlocked or purchased before, and the minigames are gone. my little girl is really sad about it.

PikNik update absolutely ruined it. everything my daughter had in the other house is gone. no mini games from the free side- not even interested in trying the 7 day free trial. complete trash now, I'll be looking for something else to have my daughter play with.

This app was full of great games before the takeover. Now you just scroll through the rooms and click things to make sounds. Limited to the bottom 2 rooms unless you subscribe. HUGE disappointment. Uninstalling immediately.

What rooms are free in Gabbys Dollhouse: Cat Games without subscribing?

Reviewers repeatedly say the free access is limited to Cakey Cat’s kitchen and DJ Catnip’s music room, while the rest of the dollhouse requires a subscription. The Play Store description lists more themed rooms, but the reviews warn that those rooms may not be available unless you subscribe.

This went from being a game my girls loved to play to one that now requires a paid subscription to play beyond Cakey's kitchen and DJ Catnip's music room. Very disappointed - especially after all the work to collect the extra items from the toy line which have now been entirely removed.

In my opinion this game is really great with also a great design but also in some things of the game it's to greedy because you have to buy every single room except the kitchen and music 🎶 room and I recommend you to add the kitty care ear because my child is always complaining that in the show in NETFLIX has it and not the game and also that she can't play with the other rooms and also because I'm a really economic person so Piknik I hope you read my review.

This was such a cute and fun game for my 5 year old but now that this new update has happened, everything is behind a paywall. Only 2 rooms available and you can't do anything with it. Really disappointed that yet again an app tailored for kids has now been changed to be a money grab from the parents.

Did Gabbys Dollhouse: Cat Games lose QR code toy unlocks, purchases, or progress?

Yes, this is one of the clearest complaints in the reviews. Parents say children lost progress, collections, scanned QR-code items from physical toys, and in at least one case access tied to a previously purchased bundle. The reviews do not include a confirmed fix from support.

If your child had old unlocks from toys or earlier purchases, the current review evidence suggests you should not assume those will still appear after the update.

the lastest "major" update ruined the game. change it back!! all the progress my child made is completely gone, she is so upset. same with the collections from all the QR codes/toys, GONE!! of course it's a cash grab bc now you have to purchase to open other rooms. the new update only gives you the music room and kitchen. GARBAGE!!!

Changed from a free game to a very expensive subscription based game with no warning. All the items from toys we bought are removed from the game. Disgusting.
★☆☆☆☆Gabbys Dollhouse: Cat Games · 2026-07-25 · 4 found this helpful
use to love this game. now it is part of some game subscription pack and you have to pay for what was free. and all the gabby surprise QR codes that I bought and scanned are gone. it's frustrating. in its current state it's not even a game. it is 2 rooms that make noise. there is zero free way to play a game that I actually spent hundreds of dollars on unlocking things.

Are the mini games gone from Gabbys Dollhouse: Cat Games?

According to recent reviewers, the old mini games and badge-style activities are gone or no longer available in the way children remember. Parents describe the current app as more like moving characters or tapping objects for sounds, with much less interactive gameplay.

This is separate from the subscription complaint: even some reviewers who discuss paid access say the paid or redesigned version has less to do than the older app.

This game used to be the best kids game around. So interactive, with all kinds of mini games inside to collect different badges. My child loved it and never got bored. The updated/new game is absolute rubbish, no mini-games, just characters you move around the rooms. Uninstalling, so disappointing from Gabby's Dollhouse.
★☆☆☆☆Gabbys Dollhouse: Cat Games · 2026-07-27 · 4 found this helpful
My kids used to LOVE this app! The new version is absolutely awful compared to the old one! All the mini games are gone, replaced by boring passive animations, and now most of the game is behind pay wall. We are all very disappointed, we might have been fine paying for the old version to keep it alive for the kids, but the new version is just not worth it.
★☆☆☆☆Gabbys Dollhouse: Cat Games · 2026-07-26 · 3 found this helpful
Before the update and paywall, my daughter loved this game. so many different mini games to play in each room. Now, literally no mini games. You can only access two rooms. this is a very unfortunate experience and im uninstalling immediately. please dont waste your time installing this game. so much LESS interactive and honestly, boring.

Can I get the old version of Gabbys Dollhouse: Cat Games back?

The provided app description does not offer an official rollback path, and reviewers asking for the old app do not report an official way to restore it. One reviewer mentions downloading an older version from a third-party site and disabling auto-updates, but that is not an official Play Store solution and the review does not establish that it is safe.

Based on the information here, the practical answer is that there is no confirmed official way to switch back to the old Gabbys Dollhouse: Cat Games experience.

the new update completely locked most of the rooms. my kid has been playing this app for a few years now, and now she can't do anything. she is very upset!! and there's no way to revert back to the old app!? i'm not paying money for this app when I was free for years. suddenly you want money for it. really. my kid is losing her mind because her favorite game is suddenly gone. I hope you have the same horrible day I've had. GREEDY

Used to be great for kids, before Piknik bought it out from SpinMaster. Now it's just a massive cash grab with next to nothing to do unless you pay. Go to apkmirror and download v3.3.1, it's the last version before the Piknik cancer took over. Set the app not to auto-update. Your kids will thank you.

Yeah because they ruined all the free rooms and gave us a limit and why can't we get the older version bring them back

Is the Gabbys Dollhouse: Cat Games subscription worth it for just this app?

The negative reviews say no, especially for families who only want Gabbys Dollhouse rather than the broader Piknik bundle. Parents object to a recurring subscription, say they would prefer a one-time purchase, and argue that the redesigned gameplay offers less value than the older free version.

There are a few positive reviews from users who still like the new game, but even some of those ask for locked rooms to be made free or for more things to do. If you dislike subscriptions for preschool apps, the reviews suggest this app is likely to frustrate you.

Used to be completely free and it didnt have ads. now you need a monthly subscription to unlock the whole game. Charging $96 a year for a preschool game is an absolute rip-off. Many families only want to play the Gabby's Dollhouse game and have no interest in the other Piknik bundle apps. Forcing parents into an expensive monthly subscription for a single title is unfair. Rethink your strategy and offer a single game buyout.

I was at 4 stars with the original gameplay, but now the developers want $8/mo for access to 6 of the 8 rooms, even though they removed all the interactive games and made each room smaller with less to do. Oh, and you can no longer add all the characters to each room (which my kid LOVED to do), and you can no longer add/remove fun extras to/from the room. Hard pass. Which sucks because my kid loved the old version of this game. Spend your money elsewhere, $8/mo for less gameplay is absurd.

I like it but there are rooms that are paid... yes (THIS IS TRUE!!!) and there is not much to do if you haven't paid. piknik, pls give it back to spin master.

Is Gabbys Dollhouse: Cat Games good for toddlers and preschool kids now?

The Play Store description says the app is made for young children, and many parents say their children loved the old version. The problem in recent reviews is the current free experience: parents describe toddlers and preschoolers getting upset when familiar rooms, characters, games, or toy unlocks are suddenly locked or missing.

For a child who is new to the app and only wants simple pretend play, it may still be usable. For a child who played the older version, the reviews suggest the update can be confusing and disappointing.

App was the only game on my phone for my kid, used every now and then by my 3 year old. They released an update recently, and the app became flagged as "Important" due to more use, so it auto-updated.

Posting for my 3.75 year old daughter: "Daddy, why are there locks all over the place?" Everything basically just got locked behind a pay wall. Daughter and I are not pleased; she's having a meltdown. Uninstalling.

an update massively changed the game, its terrible now. they took away all the free mini games my 4 year old loved. all the mini in-game items that she earned by us buying the toys are gone too. awful decision. This used to be the best game to let her play as a reward every now and then or when waiting somewhere for too long. Now even all the mini games seem to be gone in the remaining free levels
