Is the Planet Fitness app broken after the latest update?
Recent reviewers describe the latest Planet Fitness app update as a major downgrade. The complaints are not about one isolated feature: users mention slow loading, a harder check-in flow, lost history, missing workout-tracking options, problems opening the app, and more ads or clutter. A few reviewers still like the gym or parts of the app, but the strongest recent review pattern is frustration with the redesign.
possibly one of the worst updates I've seen to an app ever.
Latest update screwed the pooch. I lost info on half my workouts this year, the interface is not intuitive at all, the record activity screen is set up terribly and not nearly as as useful as the old version, it's clunky and slow, and I hate the big PF that is now on the app icon. Really hope they can at least restore all of my data and do it soon.
Prior to the Aug/Sept 2026 update, this app was great. Back then, checking-in was simple. Getting to perks was easy. Updating billing was not impossible. Keeping track of gym attendance was built in and reliable. Now however, this app has ruined every single aspect of the above. Plus, good luck if you are a PF black card member trying to check in a guest. Forget about it!

Why can’t I log in to the Planet Fitness app?
Reviews report several login failures: the app loops back to the login screen, gets stuck after sending an email code, opens a browser-based sign-in flow that never completes, or asks for an update even after the latest version is installed. Some users say reinstalling or changing browsers did not fix it, and one reviewer said they had submitted a support ticket without a response.
Doesn't work, cannot log in. This is not a native app, it uses your default browser to bring you to sign in screen. Enter your email, then it sends a code to email. Enter the code and try to sign in. DOES NOT WORK. Total garbage. I even changed my default browser to Edge, DuckDuckGo, and Chrome. No ability to sign in. The screen just sits there.
this app is useless i can not log in to my account useing my password or the one time code it keeps sending me back to the log in screen and wont allow me to access my account and everytime i go to workout i have to ask the attendants to log me in useing my phone number which is useless and annoying
I just updated the app but it keeps telling me to update it and I have. can't get past that prompt. can't open the app. was this an improvement? what do I do? tried turning phone off and still came back to the same thing.

Can I use the Planet Fitness app to check in at the gym?
The app is meant to provide a digital Club Pass for check-in, but recent reviews say the check-in experience has become unreliable or harder to find. Users mention white screens, slow loading at the counter, QR codes that do not work, the check-in button being hidden, and staff having to check them in manually by phone number.
A reviewer who says they work at Planet Fitness also reported that members are confused by the new check-in button placement. If quick entry is your main reason for installing the app, the current reviews suggest you may want a backup way to identify yourself at the club.
The app never loads the first time when you launch it. It opens up with just a white screen and only the top banner showing a top banner of purple but nothing else, you're just standing at the counter waiting for the app to load so you can sign in. You have to force close the app and launch it again for it to work properly. I missed the days when key tags with the barcode were a normal thing for people to carry around
I work at Planet Fitness and the amount of members that can't find the check-in button is way higher than it should be. It used to be front and center, very easy to see. But now its hidden in the corner, you have to tap two buttons instead of one, and it changes from purple to yellow the second time you use it after the update. This confuses a lot of people. Please rework or revert the change to the check-in button to make it as obvious and intuitive as possible.
app was great till this recent update now I have a hard time getting a qr code to check in and when it finally comes up. it does not work to check in. I have to be manually checked in which is BS this needs to be fixed before I find a new place to go

Does the Planet Fitness app lose check-in history or cap visits?
Recent reviews strongly raise this issue. Users say check-in history disappeared, earlier visits were erased, new visits stopped registering, or the annual check-in counter became stuck at a capped-looking value. Several reviewers connect this to reimbursement, insurance, or personal accountability, so the lost history is not just cosmetic for them.
One reviewer says check-in history can be found through the my I club online portal, but that is only one user’s reported workaround and does not prove the missing app history is fixed.
New App now has functionality issues the old version did not. The check-ins counter was previously a great way for me to track my annual progress and keep pace with previous years. I had completed 162 check-ins for this year prior to the update. Now it just reads 99 and no additional check-ins seem to be logged. An accurate counter seems like the easiest thing to program into an app and somehow the developers really screwed this one up. Please fix! and bring back my accurate checkin count!
new update is terrible and removed all past check in history which is very important for some people due to insurance.
This app was working amazingly for years until the recent update. The biggest issue is that my check ins are getting missed. I've even had them scan it twice and it still doesn't register. This wouldn't be a big deal but without my proof of gym visits I can't get reimbursed at my job for the visits. It's very frustrating and I don't get why they broke an app that wasn't broken. Edit: to those struggling to find check-in history - you can find it by going into your my I club online portal

Is the Planet Fitness app good for tracking workouts?
Recent reviews are mostly negative on workout tracking after the redesign. Users say workout options and equipment choices disappeared, custom entries are limited, notes are gone, activities cannot be edited or deleted, and previously logged workout data was lost. One reviewer also says the app has only limited options for weightlifting and treadmill logging.
There are positive comments about workouts and tutorials, especially for learning unfamiliar equipment, but the tracking feature itself is repeatedly criticized in the latest reviews.
WAS 5 stars but newest update removed all the workout options I use the most? walking / rollerblading /swimming etc all gone. half the machines at my location not available to log, can't rename the "custom" options so I know what the entry is for. Lost half my workout tracking data from earlier this year. update is trash, bring back the older version please.
Oh, come on! The new version doesn't allow to edit the activities. Also, people add the activity AFTER they finish, so why do you ask for start time? You should ask for the time spent in the activity and subtract that from the current time, and put that time as the default start time. Also I want the note field back. I used the stair machine for 20 minutes and climbed 500 steps? I want to add that...
Why can't I delete or edit an entered activity anymore?? The new app is only full of problems!!! Your upgrade deleted my check-ins and activities from 09/21/2025 to 08/09/2026. How do I get all of that back? I hate how you can't add a note when you log an activity. Please fix this! (10/3/26 - now it's changing the date to the previous day when you log an activity!)

Does the Planet Fitness app work well for Black Card guest passes and spa booking?
Reviews say Black Card features exist, but the recent app flow has made them harder to use. Users complain that guest check-in now takes longer, requires waiting through a “You got this” screen, or hides the guest QR code behind extra steps. One reviewer also says they could not schedule the Black Card spa in advance after checking in.
There are still positive mentions of Black Card spa amenities, but recent app-specific feedback about guest passes is mostly about delays and confusion.
The new update has slowed down the time it takes to check in my Black Card guest. Instead of quickly seeing 2 profiles to scan in like the old version, I now have to scan myself, wait for an annoyingly slow "YOU GOT THIS" animation to finalize, and then hunt for a yellow plus button to scan in my guest.
This "whole new experience" is awful. The check-in and guest pass experience have been made as obstructive and un-streamlined as possible with an unskippable "You got this!" message. Clearly redesigned by someone who never goes to Planet Fitness.
I don't know what happened. But once I checked in, I cannot schedule the black card spa in advance. I spent 45 minutes trying to figure it out when I should be working out, it will not let me. 😡

Can I cancel my Planet Fitness membership in the app?
The reviews do not show a successful in-app cancellation path. Instead, reviewers ask why the app lacks a cancellation option, say an update locked them out while they wanted to cancel, or complain they were still being charged after cancelling. Based on these reviews alone, prospective users should not assume the Planet Fitness app will handle cancellation cleanly.
How come this app doesn't have the option to cancel membership?
update locked me out how to cancel membership
i have cancelled since June but still getting charged did not assist after may but monthly see an in voice

Can I change my home club or location in the Planet Fitness app?
One detailed reviewer says app features are tied to the user’s home location and that they could not change the home location or contact support through the app. The review asks whether they would have to cancel and sign up again. The review does not provide a confirmed solution, so this appears to be an unresolved account-management concern rather than a feature reviewers say works.
features in this app are tied to your "home" location. I have 2 other locations that I like better than the place I first signed up and never actually go to my "home" location anymore. but there is no way to change my home location and no way to contact support through the app (it wants me to complain to my home gym). So I'm complaining here instead. do I really have to cancel my membership and sign up again to change my home location? Let me set a new location in the app so I can see classes.

Why does Planet Fitness ask for bank information or payment details in the app?
Some reviewers object to entering routing and account information or say the app would not accept their banking details. Another reviewer complains about an additional charge when an automatic payment did not come out on the first attempt. The reviews show payment and billing are a trust concern for some users, but they do not provide Planet Fitness’s policy details or a complete explanation of why the app requests those details.
lagging app, even worse payment method. why the hell do I have to put my routing and account number into a gym app. youd have more access to my bank information than my landlord at that point
You know, you're never going to get me as a customer if your app won't accept my banking info. Why do you even have a mandatory app at all? Why can't we go back to the world where I give you my bank draft info on a paper form, or through a website, and I get a Keychain card in return? Why is your software living on my phone a requirement to work out?
Just so you're not as surprised as I was, if the automatic payment doesn't come out of your account the first time they run your card each month, they charge an additional $20. Even if you’re not technically late making your payment, they charge nearly the price of the premium membership. For people with the Black Card that's gonna put your bill at $45 a month unless you leave your debit card on at all times. No notice, no grace period, no refunds. PF is horrible save your money.

Are the Planet Fitness app workouts, tutorials, and Crowd Meter useful?
Some users do like the app’s workouts, tutorials, and gym-busy information. A positive reviewer says they can see how busy the gym is before leaving and likes the tutorials for unfamiliar equipment. However, recent reviews also say the busy bar became unclear, some equipment is missing from activity logging, and favorite workout saving is not available.
So far, I think the app is pretty great. I can see how busy my gym is before I even get in my car. Love the workouts and tutorials, especially for the equipment I've never seen before. If I could save some of those workouts as my favorites, I could give it 5 stars. As it is, I have to search for them every time I go.
Please make the busy bar understandable. Few days before the update it started showing so busy while it wasn't. And the pattern stayed after the major update, rendering the feature useless unless it represents something specific now.
I wish you could save workouts to a list and sort them.
