Is Simply Piano a scam?
Simply Piano is a real, functioning piano-learning app used by millions, so it isn't a scam in the sense of taking your money for nothing. But the word comes up a lot in reviews because of how the free tier is structured: you get a short taste of a lesson, and then hit a subscription wall to continue the very song you started, which a number of reviewers feel crosses from 'freemium' into misleading.
It's a SCAM!!! You get tiny little snippet lessons, and then you're a wonderful player, but now you have to subscribe to continue. BRAVO SIERRA, bogus!

Is Simply Piano legit?
Yes, it's a legitimate, well-known app from an established developer, and plenty of reviewers say it genuinely helped them learn — the teaching approach itself isn't in question. The complaints are about billing practices around the subscription: reviewers describe being charged before a promised free-trial period ended, or discovering the app is barely usable without paying, which is worth knowing going in rather than a sign the app itself is fake.
This is a scammy app, your first lesson is completely free however the minute you want to actually play the song you worked to train for you find out you cannot progress without a family plan. I am absolutely dissapointed since this is one of the only piano learning apps I've found on android. Also it costs wayy too much just to learn piano for a month. This is awful. The app itself was amazing but you cant even do 50% of the stuff they advertised without paying a fortune. No thanks!

Why do I have to pay to keep learning after the first lesson in Simply Piano?
This is by design, not a bug: Simply Piano's free tier covers only the introductory stage, and reviewers consistently report that progressing past the first lesson or song requires a paid subscription, despite marketing that emphasizes learning for free. If you want more than a taste of the app, budget for the subscription from the start rather than expecting the free tier to cover real progress.
This is such a garbage app.Do not install it. They will ask money after the stage one after introduction. Which is such dumb thing? And they're telling that is full free, but it's not so please see. And take your responsibility.

Why was I charged before my Simply Piano free trial ended?
Several reviewers report being billed earlier than the trial terms stated — charged after only a week into a promised 14-day trial, for example — with customer service unresponsive to emails afterward. If you sign up for a trial, it's worth noting the exact date it should end and checking your bank statement around that date rather than assuming the billing will land exactly when advertised.
When we subscribed the app, it clearly stated that we would receive a 14-day free trial before any payment would be charged. However, we were charged after only one week, before the trial period had ended and before we had the opportunity to cancel our subscription. We have tried to reach the customer service by email, but we haven't received any reply. Do not give this app your credit card information. It is not trastable.

Is it hard to cancel a Simply Piano subscription?
Some reviewers report real difficulty — the cancellation option not appearing where expected under Google Play subscriptions, emails to support going unanswered, and being charged for a full additional year while trying to sort it out. If you decide to cancel, check directly in the Google Play Store's subscription list rather than only inside the app, since that's where reviewers say it should be managed.
* edit. Subscription Issues - I dropped it down to 1 star as I have emailed 3 times with no response. HARD APP to cancel. Couldn't cancel in the app, it does not show up under payments and subscriptions on google play and I tried googling it and it just said to do it through the app store, but it isn't there.I figured I must have already canceled. It charged me for a full year. I am waiting to hear back. I
