Is Simply Guitar a scam or misleading?

The reviews do not prove that Simply Guitar is a scam, but they do show serious trust complaints. Reviewers object that the app is presented as free but quickly asks for payment, and some describe the trial or paid nature as misleading. If you are considering installing it, the clearest risk from these reviews is not fake lessons, but feeling pushed into a subscription before you have learned much.

promotes itself as a free app but isn't. extortionate amount for an app.

This doesn't have "in-app purchases", this is a paid app with a VERY limited trial before asking for you to pay, all that without disclosing the paid only nature before you waste your time.

Is Simply Guitar free, or does it require a subscription?

The Play Store listing says the app is free, but reviewers commonly describe the free access as very limited. Several say they hit premium or subscription prompts early, including before moving on in the course or continuing beyond the beginner material. A fair reading is that you should not expect the full Simply Guitar course to be free.

it was great until it wanted me to pay to even finish the first lesson.

Why did Simply Guitar charge users around $129 or £130?

Some reviewers report large subscription charges, including around $129 or £130, and one says they tried to cancel but could not find where. The reviews provided do not show a successful cancellation path or refund outcome. Before starting, assume the app may move from a limited trial into a paid subscription and check the payment terms carefully inside your own account.

it took 130 bucks my account and I try to cancel couple of days before then but I couldn't find it i really needed that money

This app is absolutely cheeks in so many ways. One, the ads say it's free, but the thing is, you have to pay fricking $129 buckaroos annually. Eventually, I convinced my dad to pay for the app. The app asks what your preferences are, blah blah blah, but once I got to this one lesson (song by tw), it kept on telling me I was playing it wrong. The sensors on this app are broken since I could play the still lessons beforehand. I really was motivated to play guitar, but this app just doesn't cut it.

Does Simply Guitar accurately hear guitar notes and chords?

This is one of the strongest complaints in the reviews. Users report both false negatives, where the app says correct playing is wrong, and false positives, where random sounds, talking, or silence are accepted as correct. Some reviewers still like the lesson design, but say the recognition problems make progress frustrating or unreliable.

Price: Expensive for no trial experience. Pros: Excellent course design Cons: The chord recognition is terrible. I spent days with customer service and there was no reliable solution. I could cough and it would pick up the C, G, Dm chords all the same. Literally. Without real recognition it's overly frustrating trying to learn something like this as a beginner. I've decided to stop using it before the end of the month subscription and try another app. Galaxy S26 Ultra, so I doubt it's the phone.

the concept is great but lacks accuracy on notes being played. registers wrong notes as correct half the time. makes no sense and ruins the experience. I tried no headphones and with headphones In a quiet environment and it still does it. trash app mlre frustrating than useful font download

The app doesn't pick up the notes, so I can't even know what I'm doing wrong or what I'm doing right.

Is the Simply Guitar tuner accurate and safe to use?

Reviews are mixed but include serious tuner complaints. One positive reviewer says the app tuner conflicts with their guitar’s built-in tuner, while several negative reviewers say the tuner gives inconsistent guidance or contributed to broken strings. Based on these reviews, beginners should be cautious about relying on the Simply Guitar tuner alone.

I like the lessons and I can play a few songs off memory however I have a guitar with a built in tuner and either my built in tuner is wrong or the app is wrong they usually conflict each other when I go to tune every once in a while I overall like the app and I feel the subscription is entirely worth it
★★★★☆Simply Guitar - Learn Guitar · 2026-08-13 · 3 found this helpful
mishears chords and notes, and the built in tuner is awful will tell beginners to tighten their strings everg day until they snap.

It's nots so good I tried tuning my Guitar and I played the same thing and it said different things about to low and to high every time but the developers are nice.

Is Simply Guitar good for beginners?

Simply Guitar appears to work well for some beginners: reviewers praise the course design, easy explanations, and fast early progress. The drawback is that beginner success depends heavily on the app hearing your guitar correctly and on whether you are willing to pay after the limited free portion. For a beginner who wants structured lessons and is prepared for a subscription, it may be useful; for someone needing a free path or very reliable feedback, the reviews raise clear concerns.

amazingly friendly and easy to follow

Can you learn songs in Simply Guitar without paying?

Reviewers who mention songs often say the song content appears behind the subscription wall. Some describe learning a little at the start, then being asked to pay before playing songs or continuing. If your main goal is to learn songs for free, these reviews suggest Simply Guitar is likely to disappoint you.

So, uh... everything was great until it wasn't. When it's time to play your first song, it's immediately placed behind a paywall. Same with the second lesson. Even worse, it's a constant payment. So you have to pay EVERY month! It has a great way of teaching, but... seriously. This app is greedy as hell. I'd much prefer it if they got their money from adds rather than from players. Some people who want to play might want to play FOR money. I'm just going to stick to YouTube videos at this point.

I would give this app a better review because I actually learned something but it just sucks. you have to pay for it to teach songs, I had to play the wrongs strings for the app to continue, and it would half the time just not pick up that I was playing the guitar
★☆☆☆☆Simply Guitar - Learn Guitar · 2026-10-01 · 0 found this helpful
learned 2 chords before I had to pay for a membership. I didn't even get to learn one song. Just 2 chords. Ridiculous

Does Simply Guitar work on Android, Chromebook, acoustic, or electric guitar?

The app description says Simply Guitar works with any guitar, but reviews report setup-specific problems. Reviewers mention issues on Chromebook, Android landscape mode, and choosing electric guitar. One reviewer also claims Android devices or acoustic-only use were not supported for their setup. Treat compatibility as something to test early before relying on the app or paying.

They don't tell you that it only works with an iRig interface that will only connect an iOS device and your guitar, Android devices or acoustic only just aren't supported, and that's if you want to go spend the extra couple hundred bucks to get the iRig device setup. Buyer beware.

Do you need a real guitar to use Simply Guitar?

Yes. The app description says you place your device in front of you and play guitar while the app listens, and one reviewer explicitly says you need a guitar to use it. Simply Guitar is not a substitute instrument or a guitar simulator for someone who has not yet bought or borrowed a guitar.

you have to have a guitar to use app but I don't have a guitar yet

Do Simply Guitar lessons or videos have playback problems?

Most technical complaints in the reviews focus on note recognition and tuning, but there is also a report of lesson videos stopping after the early material. The review says this happened even with a subscription, so it is worth checking that lessons play properly on your device before depending on the app.

It seems good until each short video stops playing after a certain point, but it doesn't seem to be loading or lagging. I have the subscription for this too. My daughter skips to the next one and the same thing happens. The 1st few lessons were fine. 3 stars are for the potential of it, if we can get past this issue...
