iHeart: Music, Radio, Podcasts — FAQ

Is iHeart a scam?

No. iHeart is the long-running streaming app from a major U.S. radio broadcaster, and reviews confirm it works as described — live AM/FM stations, podcasts, and music streaming. The frustrations reviewers report are about ad load, glitches, and pricing, not about the app being fake or taking money without delivering a service.

Hands Down The Best Music streaming app available, especially the free tier. Thank you for not spamming me with ads and allowing me to enjoy my favorite stations.

Why does iHeart show so many ads?

Ad frequency is the single most common complaint in recent reviews — several describe long back-to-back ad blocks between songs or podcast segments, and a couple say ads interrupted even after paying for an ad-free plan. iHeart's free tier has always been ad-supported, but multiple reviewers say the volume of ads has grown noticeably worse recently.

Updating my previous rating. I had given IHEART two stars due to excessive ads. I had listened to two ads, three songs, followed by SEVEN ads. My update goes to ONE star due to the fact that I listened to FOUR ads, followed by ONE SONG, and ending with SEVEN MORE ADS. I know you have to get paid IHEART, but this is too much. You get paid 1 cent AT MINIMUM per ad. With millions of users listening to multiple ads per day, your revenue is massive. This is ridiculous. Be better.

Why did iHeart's subscription price go up?

Multiple reviewers report their subscription price increased — from roughly $9.99 to $11.99 a month plus tax in at least one account — putting it closer to competitors that used to be pricier. Reviewers who valued iHeart specifically for being the cheaper option say the increase eroded that advantage.

Recently raised their price to the same as spotify. Iheartradio used to be the budget option but now that they raised their price you might as well go with spotify.

Does iHeart work reliably, or does it cut out and crash?

A number of reviewers describe playback dropping out, the app restarting music on its own, freezing, or downloaded podcasts failing to play offline even after being marked downloaded. It isn't universal — most reviews don't mention reliability problems — but if uninterrupted playback matters, such as for a commute, it's worth testing on your own device and connection first.

The app cuts out. It will play ads for podcasts for 5-10 minutes while the show you're trying to hear goes on without you. It used to be better - almost flawless. They seem to have fixed the forever ads, but now the same ad plays over and over 3-4 times before the show starts. Drives me crazy. Just as bad as the 10 minutes of ads and no podcast starting. Same rating.
