Is PictureThis a scam?
PictureThis does identify plants and is a real app, but a large share of recent reviewers call it a scam over its billing. The pattern they describe: a listing that reads as free, a trial that requires a card, an automatic yearly charge of roughly $40 when the trial ends, and refunds refused with PictureThis and Google Play each pointing at the other.
I intended to take advantage of the free 7 day trial. I cancelled the subscription on day 5. Picture This will not refund, they claim its Google Play's responsibility as the payment was collected by them. Google Play also refuse to refund. A complete con, fraudulent and dishonest. Neither organisation cares. Don't get trapped as I did!!

Is PictureThis legit?
The plant-identification feature is real and works for many plants, so the app is not fake. But a large number of recent reviewers describe its billing as deceptive and untrustworthy, undisclosed pricing, a card-gated trial that auto-renews, and refused refunds, so the practical risk is financial rather than the app not doing anything.
Very deceptive and out right untrustworthy app frome the beginning. Nothing free here. Be warned about trusting them with your financial information. What might they do with it?

Is PictureThis actually free?
No. Reviewers say there is no free plant identification: you get a seven-day trial that requires a credit card and converts automatically to a paid yearly subscription. Many reviewers consider the free framing on the store listing misleading because the price is not shown before you install.
says "free plant identifier" but there is NO "free" about it. Can't figure anything out about my plants without paying for it first. very disappointing.

I cancelled PictureThis during the free trial but was still charged, how do I get a refund?
This is one of the most common complaints. Reviewers report cancelling well inside the trial and still being charged the yearly fee, then being refused a refund, with PictureThis saying it is Google Play's responsibility and Google Play saying it is the developer's. Reviewers advise disputing the charge through Google Play and, failing that, your card issuer.
I got this app under the free trial and cancelled well before it ended as it turned out it wasn't what I needed and wasn't helpful. However, despite canceling within the trial period a fee of £34.99 was still taken from my account. Google won't refund saying its down to the app developer, the app developer says they won't refund as its due to Google play store. Not at all happy.... AVOID AT ALL COSTS OTHERWISE YOULL BE STUNG FOR THE FEE EVEN THO YOU CANCELLED. Appaling customer service

How do I cancel my PictureThis subscription?
Reviewers say there is no reliable cancel option inside the app and that it directs you to the Play Store, cancel the subscription there under Payments and subscriptions. Some reviewers report the app still appearing to renew after they cancelled in previous years, so verify the subscription is gone and check for charges near the renewal date.
loved this app the 1st year I had it. I canceled it last year after it auto renewed. This year it auto renewed again .. This time I tried to cancel again and now it will not allow me to cancel. It just tells me to cancel in the play store and all I can do is uninstall it. but it would still charge me next year.

Why was I charged by PictureThis when I never subscribed?
Several reviewers report charges appearing without them knowingly subscribing, including on cards not associated with the app and a year or more after uninstalling, and being told a subscription had renewed when they say it had not. Check your Google Play subscriptions and payment methods, and dispute charges you did not authorize.
!*CAUTION*! This app will charge any card you have ever used on your phone. Without notification or permission! Terrible customer service! I didnt use this app for over a year! I was charged $42.50 on a card not associated to this APP! This app steals from Elderly customers! Don't be deceived by it pretending to be helpful! I now have to go without groceries for over a week! Cant speak to a real person at customer service 😒

How accurate is PictureThis plant identification?
Mixed. Reviewers say it is usually good on flowers and common plants, and less reliable on bare leaves, trees and young shoots, sometimes returning a plant in the wrong genus. Notably, several reviewers found it will confidently label non-plant objects, a mouse, a USB cable, a stuffed toy, as plants, which undermines trust in the results.
Upon photographing a computer mouse, artificial foliage, a coffee-filled cup, and a USB cable, the system consistently identified all items as botanical in nature. This significantly undermines confidence in the application's accuracy.

Is PictureThis's plant disease diagnosis and treatment advice reliable?
Reviewers are frequently critical of the disease feature, saying the diagnosis is vague, often "overwatered" or "pathogen infection", and the remedy repetitive, commonly baking soda, aspirin or salt. Several reviewers warn that the advice to add salt to soil is harmful and should not be followed.
great for identifying plants, very poor with diseases, always says overwatered or pathogen infection, remedy is one of 2, aspirin or baking soda. not much help other than identification.

Why does PictureThis make me sit through a long intro before I can use it?
Reviewers repeatedly complain that on first launch the app forces an unskippable slideshow of awards and self-promotion and then a paywall, rather than taking you to the camera. Several say they uninstalled over this first impression alone.
I originally posted this a few months ago and still no change. When you first download the app, it takes you through an unskippable tutorial and brings up multiple times how great the app is. Literally an unskippable slideshow. IT IS A LONG SLIDESHOW.
