Is Bark - Parental Controls a scam or a waste of money?

The reviews do not prove that Bark - Parental Controls is a scam, but they do show serious trust concerns. Reviewers describe paying for features that stopped working, getting false or bogus alerts, having trouble with refunds or billing, and feeling that support did not resolve problems. A few reviewers say they have used Bark successfully, but the most detailed recent complaints are about reliability and value.

let me explain why bark is The. Worst. my mother gets flagged for me sending a songs on spotify that i never ever sent. it said there was an alert for sexual content and it sent screenshots of 'messages i sent' and while i had never seen these, it was saying it was from me. we decided it was a spotify issue and switched over to apple music. however, after we deleted spotify, she starts getting flagged for messages on other apps. dont use bark. its a total scam.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! Bark has horrible customer service! They delivered the home device to a different address & REFUSED to refund my money & tried to force me to return item I have never received! Bark constantly sends bogus alerts & doesn't properly track info. They are horrible, look at how many parents say the same thing! I already spoke to Amy F in senior billing, Fin,Bladimir, & Franco all failed to resolve the issue. So don't lie & say billing will fix it, I have 11 emails proof!

Horrible. It constantly requires updates. After a recent update my son's phone flagged Bark as unsafe and the app was deleted. i've spent days trying to reset the app. After I finally get it working, the next day the app reverts itself to the checklist. I can't get passed location settings even though I've done everything Bark customer service told me to do. I've even followed Google instructions & everything is set properly on both phones. Nothing works. I'm paying premium for nothing!

Is Bark - Parental Controls hard to set up and use?

Setup and navigation are among the most common pain points in these reviews. Parents describe the app as confusing, difficult to set up, difficult to navigate, and harder to use after changes to the parent app. Some reviewers also say basic items such as account settings, parent codes, permissions, and support links are hard to find.

We've used the app for years, and have been happy with it. In fact, we just bought a Bark phone for our daughter. However the parent app is no longer user-friendly. I used to be able to navigate to the controls I want very easily and now I can't even find the parent code. please go back to a less flashy, but easier to navigate version.

app is very difficult to set up and navigate
★☆☆☆☆Bark - Parental Controls · 2026-08-11 · 0 found this helpful
The app has gotten worse over time. It's difficult to navigate and many of the features that I used to be able to access easily seem to no longer be available. I am a fan of the protection the phone provides, but am very disappointed in the parent end of things. Using it for even the most basic things has become extremely frustrating.

Does Bark - Parental Controls work reliably after updates?

Reviews repeatedly describe reliability problems after updates or connection changes. Parents say Bark asks for frequent updates, loses connection to children’s devices, stops monitoring, or reverts to setup screens. Some say it works when everything is connected, but that keeping it working requires regular troubleshooting.

Spotty monitoring, easily disrupted on Android phone. The app is constantly requesting an update, multiple times a week. I'm not confident it's monitoring as well as expected. Additional issues on iPad, unable to connect to monitor device following instructions.
★★★☆☆Bark - Parental Controls · 2026-07-27 · 0 found this helpful
Edit: dropping my rating another star. what am I even paying for at this point? We have to troubleshoot the connection to bark on my daughter's phone at least twice a week. It keeps saying she needs to update the app in my app, but hers shows it's the latest version. If you are going to charge so much for a service, it should WORK. Bark is great, when it works (which is less often than when it doesn't). it is constantly losing connection to my kids' phones, which totally defeats the purpose.
★★☆☆☆Bark - Parental Controls · 2026-08-10 · 1 found this helpful
Bark doesn't work. I followed all the instructions correctly, it kind of worked for a short time but as soon as an update happens, Bark stops working. My kids still had full access to everything when they're supposed to be in "down time". Doesn't let me limit or restrict app usage. It's also way over sensitive on alerts (there are some that have different levels of sensitively but its not enough). EDIT: I tried supports suggestions before and they helped until the next update.

Are Bark - Parental Controls alerts accurate, or are there false alerts?

Recent reviews give a mixed but concerning picture. Some parents want alerts and find them useful, but many complaints say Bark flags harmless messages, sends duplicate notifications, or reports activity when the child was not using the device. Several reviewers say the alert sensitivity creates extra work instead of clear, actionable information.

Excecuted very poorly. The app flags absolutely everything; youtube videos what say "damn" once or have "lmao" in a hashtag, and even texts with absoluely nothing explicit. "What's up with you?" was flagged for bullying. The app has to be updated almost daily in order for it to work. The location feature doesn't work at all; says your child is all the way across town at 3am when they're asleep in bed. Overall, just gives your child zero privacy and is a constant annoyance for parents.

for the love can you please give us more control/options of notifications. I do not need a notification from the app immediately followed by a text for the same alert every. danger. time! Let us pick how or which one we want. And PLEASE either make "the moment" thing smaller or make it optional bc we don't want to participate and it's in the way and I don't want the reminder to do it! I literally just want to monitor my kids stuff.
★★☆☆☆Bark - Parental Controls · 2026-07-28 · 14 found this helpful
The reports I'm getting alerts for are times when my child has not been on a device. Very confusing!! I can't question my child about what sites they have been on if the information isn't accurate.

Is Bark - Parental Controls location tracking accurate?

Location accuracy is a major complaint in the reviews. Parents report GPS showing children in the wrong place, location alerts saying a child left and arrived home when they had not moved, and delayed or missing live tracking. One positive reviewer says location is mostly accurate but still sometimes needs recalibration.

very glitchy, this app does not give real-time location, it's also very glitchy and will say that my son location will be in multiple places when he's actually sitting next to me. unreliable and untrustworthy, do not recommend. less expensive just put them on your family plan.

its good with a tiny flaw that's recently started. I love using this app and its super helpful. recently though, its started sending me notifications every 30 minutes to an hour saying that my kid has left our house and then arrived again at random times. the catch is, shes either right there in her room drawing, standing right next to me, or sleeping. girl hasn't escaped, I can clearly see her lol. other than that, the app works great. its a little hard to navigate, but its not unbearable.

don't upgrade to the Samsung 8 watches. they don’t track or update on the map or the home screen of the Bark app at all for locations. they don’t send out alarts either. my children have been home for 3 days and still shows them visit their grandma house from the Saturday. because the app didn't update the location my son got lost in her neighborhood. we couldn't find his live ping on the map it took us 1 hour to locate him. thank alot for send out watches that don't update on the parents app.

Can kids bypass or delete Bark - Parental Controls?

Some reviews say children were able to get around Bark’s protections. Parents mention a child deleting the app, full access returning after updates or downtime failures, and time limits not working. A child reviewer also claimed a bypass method. These reviews suggest parents should not assume Bark is tamper-proof.

The app was a bit of a hassle to set up, but I could have dealt with that had the app done what it was supposed to do. My son was able to delete the app from his phone, which allowed him to access all of the content we had set out to block.

i am a child with this app and lemme tell you it's the worst in existence. almost everything I text gets flagged to my parents seriously I was only trying to tell my friend something related to weapons and also the monthly data skyrocket to full in like 2 days so I can't even use my phone in public. I feel like there are strings attached to me and are being pulled by my parents dont reccomend to have please don't get it. secret: you can bypass bark by spamming in settings you can access anything

Can Bark - Parental Controls break apps, texts, Gmail, or the child’s phone?

Several reviewers say Bark interfered with normal phone use. Complaints include Gmail not syncing, texts not being delivered, apps shutting down, VPN-related phone issues, and phones becoming unusable until Bark was removed or reconnected. These are review reports, not a guaranteed outcome for every device, but they are a clear risk raised by users.

On the child's device, the app consistently prevented Gmail to sync. Also randomly prevented all text messages from being delivered. The notifications did not have enough customization - it was all or nothing. I turned them on and was flooded with useless notification and most times 10 alerts per incident. Poor user interface. Very difficult to setup and get anything useful from the app. Did not monitor several apps correctly. Was not effective at all, but might be better than nothing?

It caused my child's phone to malfunction. wouldn't let her use any apps and had to be Uninstalled to get the phone to work again. AND after I went through their app to speak to someone to have the subscription canceled Google play reinstated the subscription, charged my card, and has refused to refund my money.

from a child who's parents uses this app for them. I am constantly feeling watched with everything I do, I can't have a normal conversion without feeling the need to delete and reword every single thing I say. I feel as if typing even this is going to be flagged. Another thing, it disconnects sometimes and when my parents reconnect it, it shuts down all my apps and I can't use anything for 1-4 days. Even things that aren't harmful get flagged and even my parents admit that.

Is Bark - Parental Controls customer support helpful for billing, cancellation, or setup problems?

Support is another frequent source of frustration in recent reviews. Users describe slow chats, difficulty reaching a human, unresolved billing or refund issues, and trouble finding account or cancellation controls. One positive review says a representative helped restore device protection and send a replacement, so support experiences are not uniformly negative.

sort works, but no customer support. A bit weird to set up, not compatible with Google link family really. as long as you have no issues it is decent, but when you need customer support takes days to weeks to solve a problem, they don't call back, chats go silent for hours then they end it. this is for kids so you get it and then your kid is without phone for days because bark doesn't respond. do not recommend

One star because I'm just trying to find my account and billing and even a.i. says it should be right there in the app but it's not. It's not user friendly, it's confusing and yet basic. The issue is that there are no options for account, no hamburger, nothing. It even removes the browser controls to open in browser. I had to use my laptop and in the customer service chat I wait hours and the message is never even looked at. That does not bode well.

it's been 3 years. I've had only one problem once they switched over the parent app and my device protection got canceled and of course after it was cancelled we needed a replacement. I was able to talk to the customer service representative and get a new phone sent and back to the protection being on. the location is mostly accurate, sometimes it'll say he left somewhere but he's at home so I recalibrate it. I've been able to change the notifications for alerts and it's been a life saver!!

Does Bark - Parental Controls hurt kids’ privacy or trust with parents?

Child and teen reviewers strongly object to Bark’s monitoring. They describe feeling watched, losing privacy, rewording messages to avoid flags, and damage to trust with parents. The app description says parents receive alerts only when potentially problematic activity is detected rather than full access to everything, but the child reviews show that some monitored kids experience it as invasive.

I hate it with a passion id enjoy talking about how I feel and my mh health without my parents constantly getting a notification about it it gets to a point tbh it's annoying I dont feel like I have enough privacy if I wanted to talk to them I would but I personally won't feel comfortable talking abt my mh in front of my parents or in front if therapists if you have this app as a minor im so sorry I have it too if you couldn't tell and I hate this app..

one way ticket to a nursing home! I am 21 but my mother made me and my younger brother use this a few years back (I was 15/16 he was 12/13) and lemme just tell you that if you force your teens to use this you will RUIN whatever trust they have with you. I know this from my own experience.. yes, kids make dumb decisions sometimes but that's how they learn.

Parents, before installing this app, see the perspective of a person who had it when they were 9 - 11 this app is invading a child's privacy. I'm happy I don't have it anymore, but you need to know that this app can ruin a child's mental health. There is a thin line between caring for your child and invading their privacy. Would YOU like everything you do being tracked?? A perntal control app should just be being able to see your kid's screen time and apps nothing more

How much does Bark - Parental Controls cost?

The Play Store listing says Bark - Parental Controls is free to download, but its main services require paid plans. The same listing describes Bark and Bark Jr as separate subscriptions with different feature sets.

PlanListed priceWhat the listing says it includes
Bark$14/month or $99 annuallyContent monitoring, screen time management, and web filtering
Bark Jr$5/month or $49 annuallyScreen time management and web filtering

One reviewer says the free trial felt too short to evaluate the service and complained that the paid plan was expensive. Other reviewers question the value when features require frequent troubleshooting.

You can only try it for seven days for free but make sure you show us how to make you pay for it immediately. my child's safety is VERY important but 7 days really shows nothing and then its Uber expensive after that. enjoy... im deleting

Do Bark phones and Bark watches work well with the Bark - Parental Controls app?

Reviews about Bark hardware are mixed but include several serious complaints. Users mention a Bark phone being hard to manage, difficulty unlocking a phone after canceling service, Bark watch reception problems, missing location alerts on a Samsung watch model, poor call quality, and battery life concerns. One long-term reviewer says they were able to get a replacement phone through support.

good luck trying to use the phone with any other provider. I was able to cancel service, but now there is no way to unlock the phone and switch to another provider. I was sitting in a chat for 30 plus minutes just to be told someone else will have to reach out to assist. This exact thing has happened to me twice over a several days span and no resolution. I now own a device that is completely useless unless I reactive Bark and pay over $40 a month for service.

bought a bark watch and had trouble with it from the beginning. I tried contacting customer service through the chat, as no number was available to call, and waited for about 30 minutes before a human chat representative came on the line. spent atleast 45 more minutes before canceling/returning my bark watch that had a lot of trouble getting reception. Even when it had reception outside,it was emergency calls only. it only worked in one corner of my house. canceled in less than 6 hours.

I wish I could give this zero stars. Our experience started off great and went down hill after 2 days of using the watch and app. The gps is constantly off base of where my kid is, which was the main point of getting a watch. Also the quality of the calls is always spotty. Day 2 of having her own watch and number my child was receiving spam messages from contacts other than her approved list. We will be using another company from now on.
