Why does The Weather Network open Amazon or show so many ads?

Recent reviewers repeatedly describe the free app as difficult to use because ads appear while scrolling, full-screen ads interrupt weather checks, and some ads reportedly open Amazon without an intentional tap. Several users say this made them uninstall the app or look for another weather app.

The reviews do not show a confirmed fix. If you install it, expect the ad experience to be the main risk users are warning about.

Almost Unusable! I've used this app for several years now and have mostly been happy with it. I can accept pop up ads once in awhile but it has become an absolute joke! I am aware that there is a paid version but the unpaid should still be usable. I go into the app and in about 15 seconds I get inundated with ads! Almost every time I touch the screen I get an Amazon ad pop up! I will be deleting this app and pay for a different one!

I like the app but I am very annoyed that it Forces Amazon App Open without my consent. I will just be scrolling through then boom Amazon opens in my face. They must have some kind of deal with Amazon. regardless its not acceptable. If I was interested in an AD I would click on it. Stop forcing it open. There is also a huge amount of ads in the app as well all over the place. This is getting out of hand. They also keep advertising borderline Malware and Malicious apps. This needs to stop.

App is almost unusable with forced open ads for Amazon when scrolling. They aren't a weather service anymore, just a 3rd party advertiser that dabbles in weather.

Is The Weather Network accurate?

The reviews are sharply mixed. Some users call The Weather Network accurate and reliable, but a substantial set of recent critical reviews says forecasts changed suddenly, missed current rain, showed sunshine during rain, or were wrong for long stretches. If your job or plans depend on precise local timing, the review sample suggests you should compare it with another source before relying on it alone.

have used this for a year at the least and yeah, there's a lot of ads but what bothers me most is how often the forecasts are wrong and how often the forecasts completely change for my city. just an example: one morning it was forecasting a stormy day, but it was super sunny, the forecast changed to sunny all day, then it rained for half the day. is it run by ai and not actual people? doesn't feel right to me

it's absolutely pouring right now. has been for hrs. weather network says the sun is shining.

Does The Weather Network ad-free subscription actually remove ads?

Recent paid users report problems with the ad-free subscription. Complaints include still seeing ads after paying, needing to restore the purchase often, ad-blocker popups blocking content, and no response after opening a support ticket. One reviewer also says they were charged after cancelling, but the reviews do not provide enough detail to explain what happened.

Based on these reviews, do not assume the paid option will be friction-free on every device or account.

Paid Subscription but Still Have Ads. Created a ticket but got no response.

I have been paying for the ad free version for a while now, but recently it started popping up a request to disable my ad-blocker (that I don't have) to support the app with ads... and that pops up every time I open an article or an alert and I can't read it with the pop-up in the way... what is the ad-free subscription for if you keep being harrased to allow ads?
★★☆☆☆The Weather Network · 2026-07-29 · 3 found this helpful
If I'm paying to remove ads, I really shouldn't be still seeing ads! I have to "restore purchase" very often...

Did The Weather Network remove air quality or pollen information?

The app description lists air quality, UV, and allergy or pollen reports, but recent reviewers specifically complain that pollen information was removed and that air quality is missing, removed, or hard to find. The concern is especially strong from users who want wildfire smoke, pollution, or health-related outdoor guidance.

Because the reviews conflict with the feature list, a prospective user who needs pollen or air quality data should check those screens immediately after installing.

They removed information about pollen. I wrote them about this feature that was removed (even for premium subscribers like me). They sent me an email acknowledging the receipt of my complaint but I never heard from them | Ils ont retiré les informations sur le pollen (malgré mon membership premium). Je leur ai envoyé un courriel à ce sujet. Ils ont envoyé un accusé de réception mais n'ont jamais répondu.

why would you remove air quality from the app? this is vital information when there are fires, pollution or people have lung issues and need to determine the risk of spending too much time outdoors. This is far more important in the summer than a flu risk which is mostly a winter risk. Are you stupid? It's fire season

Are The Weather Network severe weather alerts reliable?

Some users like the app’s weather-change alerts, but recent critical reviews raise reliability problems: delayed storm warnings, repeated non-weather emergency alerts, and severe weather notifications stopping entirely after a phone change. For safety-critical alerts, the reviews suggest using The Weather Network alongside official warnings rather than as the only notification source.

I like the way that it alerts you to weather changes, however it could be better and work with itime2.
★★★★★The Weather Network · 2026-07-12 · 2 found this helpful
10 minutes after the storm goes through we get the warning. Maps are always wrong.
★☆☆☆☆The Weather Network · 2026-07-21 · 1 found this helpful
It worked great for the longest time, then suddenly, I dont get notifications for severe weather etc. after going from Samsung s22 ultra to s26 plus. paid for add free. still.see ads. would give fewer stars if I could...Update: UNINSTALLED....can't be bothered. no severe weather alerts, ads when paid for ad free. Its pointless. I recommend the Weather Can app.

Is The Weather Network radar good for tracking rain?

The reviews give mixed feedback on radar. One user says it has a good radar function, but other recent reviews say radar access changed, local rain activity is harder to find, the radar map is poor, or radar differed between devices. If live rain tracking is your main reason to install, this is a feature to test before depending on it.

you removed the radar access ,don't care about heat maps..that's what a thermometer is for, don't need to know about the smoke in the air..that's what the air quality icon is for. I want to know local rain activity. I shouldn't have traverse your app for this information.

Radar map is trash. and now every time I look at this ap it opens my Amazon app. total trash of an app.
★☆☆☆☆The Weather Network · 2026-08-07 · 1 found this helpful
aggressive ads, auto opening browser app to show products on Amazon even without a click. Weather is the same as other apps without ads. good radar function.

Do The Weather Network widgets work on Android?

The app offers customizable widgets, but recent Android reviews report setup and refresh problems. Users mention a Save button hidden behind navigation controls, widgets not staying on the home screen, and refresh warnings tied to battery or data saver settings. One positive reviewer also wanted more widget styles, so even satisfied users may find widget customization limited.

I was trying to add the widget to my Home screen on my s26+ ultra phone, but the Save button when you're setting up the widget hides behind the bottom navigation controls of the phone. So, I couldn't click Save to add it at all. It was frustrating. I'm gonna stop my no-ad subscription to this app.
★☆☆☆☆The Weather Network · 2026-07-26 · 0 found this helpful
so far so good with majority, but the weird need to disable the mobile power saver just to update the widget, even when manually pressing the refresh button should not pop up "You have a battery or data saving feature on your device enabled. As a result. it is not allowing the widget to refresh its data in the background. To refresh the data on your widget, please double-check your device settings." I understand auto updating in the background but not with a manual refresh.

Does The Weather Network have privacy or tracking concerns?

A small set of recent reviews raises privacy concerns. One reviewer objects to precise location access all the time, and another says DuckDuckGo reported tracking attempts even when the app was closed. The reviews do not prove what data is collected, but they show that privacy-sensitive users are noticing permissions and trackers.

The Play Store description links to the app’s privacy policy and terms, so privacy-focused users should review those before installing.

uninstalling due to the gross number of trackers. duck duck go reported thousands of tracking attempts everyday even when the app is closed. parasites! if I could give it zero starts I would
★☆☆☆☆The Weather Network · 2026-07-31 · 1 found this helpful
Why does this app need to know my precise location ALL the time? Very invasive. The ads are also opening randomly. I'm uninstalling.

What do users still like about The Weather Network?

Positive reviews still praise The Weather Network for local weather news, frequent updates, multiple forecasting tools, alerts, and generally reliable information. This means the app is not reviewed only negatively, but recent praise is often outweighed in the same review sample by complaints about ads and accuracy.

What sets this app apart from other weather apps is the local news coverage for weather forecasts and events. the app is frequently updated and there are many weather forecasting tools on the app. I only wish they had widgets in additional styles.
