Is Cal AI - Food Calorie Tracker accurate for calories and macros?
Reviews are mixed, but accuracy is the biggest concern raised. Some users say the estimates are good enough for loose, everyday macro tracking, while many others say photo scans, barcodes, serving sizes, calories, fiber, fat, and sugar can be far off and often need manual correction. Based on these reviews, Cal AI may be useful as a rough estimate tool, but it does not look dependable for strict dieting, bodybuilding, or anyone who needs precise nutrition numbers.
Awful. AI photos feature results are WAAAYYY off! I really wanted to like this app so I didn't have to weigh all my ingredients but it simply doesn't work. 9 out of 10 times I've used the photo feature I've been really surprised by the results and when cross checking against actually weighing and looking up nutrients, the results were often up to 2x more or 50% less than accurate. That level of accuracy is worse than even the wildest guess, which means there's simply no point.
It's ok but could be better. First off it's pretty glitchy still and needs some definite refinement. It isn't super accurate BUT it's pretty accurate if you aren't looking to be super strict and just want to know if you're basically hitting your macros and fiber. I'm sure as they refine it, things will get better. For 40 bucks a year for me right now, it's fit for purpose. If I was truly body building, this wouldn't be my first choice but I only want to make sure I'm in the ballpark each day.
I really like this app's user interface but the AI tracker is extremely inaccurate with barcoded items. I even tried taking a photo of the exact macros and it uploaded with numbers that were way off. I've switched to a different free app that's working perfectly so far.

Is Cal AI - Food Calorie Tracker free, or do you have to pay?
The Play Store listing says the app is free, but many reviewers say the useful calorie-scanning features are behind a paywall, membership, trial, or subscription flow. If you are looking for a fully free calorie tracker, the reviews suggest you should expect limitations or a payment prompt before using the main feature.
advertise as free need to pay
you gotta pay to use the main function but it seems like it helps if you do pay, though I just put it on a fake card for the free 3 days 😭
Long onboarding and only tells you the ridiculous price at the end

Is Cal AI - Food Calorie Tracker worth paying for?
That depends on how exact you need the app to be. Positive paid reviewers describe it as user friendly, motivating, and good enough for staying in the ballpark. Critical paid reviewers say the subscription is not worth it because of inaccurate scans, bugs, slow loading, lost streaks, and support problems. The safest reading of the reviews is that it may be worth trying only if approximate tracking is acceptable to you.

It's a good idea but extraordinarily half baked — glitchy, hard to use, inaccurate in its core feature ("AI" food scanning), and clearly vibe coded. It's just frustrating to use, and full of bugs. Could it be a great product one day? Sure, very likely. Is it worth $30 annually right now? Absolutely not. I fully recommend you spend your money elsewhere.
Trying to gain weight, I've found it much easier to consistently hit my target calories and track my progress. Estimates are accurate, price point is reasonable for the full year and it's extremely user friendly. One bug I've noticed is sometimes when scanning food it won't register, then when you take another photo the previous one did go through and the new photo stalls at 50% until I close and open the app, to which only the first photo is there and accounted for. Edit: & Streak loss issue

Are Cal AI - Food Calorie Tracker refunds and free trials easy?
The refund-related reviews are mostly negative. Users describe accidental purchases, trial confusion, denied Google Play refund requests, and unresolved developer support issues. The reviews do not show a reliable refund path, so anyone considering the app should read the subscription and trial terms carefully before starting.
I don't get the refund of money purchase and I purchased accidentally the money is 2999 rupees please refund my money thank you.
Terrible product, gives such inaccurate calorie and volume count based on the photos given. Isn't that the whole point of this app? Requested a refund within 24 hours of purchase and the customer rep was useless, said they couldn't find the transaction even though I sent them the full transaction information and account. Still unresolved and haven't been refunded. Deal with another company to save yourself the trouble and use a product that actually works.
be careful about 3 days free trial because i use only day and stop subscribe cannot refund

Does Cal AI - Food Calorie Tracker have login or account problems?
Some reviewers report being blocked at sign-in, getting stuck while creating an account, or being logged out after paying. Others say they could not restore access cleanly after changing phones or reinstalling. These reviews suggest that account access and subscription restoration can be a real risk if you plan to rely on the app every day.
sign in with google button not working if you skip signing and skip you can't continue the app will tell you later you need to be logged
When I used to have it on my old phone, it was great. i got a new phone and tried to sign in. And it won't let me. there's no help option. i even did the security link. and deleted the app and reinstalled it.
I'm stuck at create an account section. I tried using 3 google accounts and still stuck at it. ima just delete ts

Does Cal AI - Food Calorie Tracker lose streaks or progress?
Yes, this is a recurring complaint in the reviews. Users describe streaks resetting even after daily logging, progress disappearing after reinstalling, and saved meal or weight-history data being gone. For users motivated by streaks or long-term history, the reviews raise a serious reliability concern.
This app was accidentally deleted from my phone, I redownloaded it and logged into the account I pay for and all of my information is gone. I double checked and made sure it's the correct email with the subscription and all of my entries from over a month of recording, meals, recent meals, weight history, and everything is all deleted. I have logged into other tracking apps after years of not using them, and all of my info is still saved. This app was deleted for less than 24 hours.
This app constantly bugs out and drops my streak even though I logged meals and exercise every day. when I Uninstalled and reinstalled to try and fix this, the app deleted all my progress even though I signed in with the same account. for an app I paid a yearly subscription for I expected better.
used to be nice, I pay for this app, and it keeps losing my streaks. I had a work challenge and was at a 45 day streak and it just reverted back to zero without me missing a day which made me lose the challenge. "tech support" was of no help and I believe they were just AI. dont waste your money.

Is Cal AI - Food Calorie Tracker buggy or slow?
Many critical reviews describe bugs, slow loading, broken search, food not adding, stalled scans, serving multipliers resetting, and general instability. A few users still like the app when it works, but reliability complaints are common enough that prospective users should expect possible friction rather than a polished experience.
The app is quite unstable and slow. The simple food database search function frequently breaks or runs incredibly slowly. The photo scanning is decent. it gives fairly inconsistent results, but with a bit of nudging in AI prompting it does an ok job. Really the developers just need to focus on the fundamentals of making the search better and the app itself less prone to breaking.
it's nice when it works. it doesn't always let you add food
Does not calculate calories correctly. Showed calorie totals over the daily goal even though the food scanned in did not reflect that. Constantly having to re-adjust meals because for some reason it would reset each ingredient to a full serving. Clunky design that does not flow. The picture AI detection did seem pretty accurate though so I will give 1 star back for that.

Does Cal AI - Food Calorie Tracker send too many notifications?
Some reviewers complain that Cal AI sends too many notifications, including repeated reminders and upgrade prompts. One reviewer wanted logging reminders but said promotional-style notifications became annoying, while another paid user asked how to stop family-plan upgrade messages.
This app spams you with notifications. I keep them on for me not forgetting to log my food. But it sends the same notification multiple times a day. "1374 people have joined Cal..." the number never changes. Besides the point, the notification pings are annoying. And if you take pictures of the same food every day, it wildly fluctuates in macros and calories. Not accurate for a "tracking app". Better to calculate portions yourself.
I paid for a year, but I get multiple notifications every day to upgrade my plan to a family plan. Tell me how to turn that off.
A decent app. Slightly below foodvisor in terms of UX, but far cheaper. But it sends far too many unneeded notifications.

Is Cal AI - Food Calorie Tracker good for weight loss or gaining weight?
There are some positive reviews from users using Cal AI for weight goals. Reviewers mention motivation, weight loss, hitting target calories, and tracking progress. However, those positives sit alongside many complaints about estimate accuracy, streak loss, and bugs, so the app seems better suited to broad motivation than precise goal management.

if you're trying to gain weight, try a different app.

Is Cal AI - Food Calorie Tracker good for homemade recipes or special diets?
Reviews suggest homemade meals and special diets can be frustrating. A reviewer said homemade recipes required adding ingredients one by one and still produced incorrect nutrition totals, while another said the food database and portion-size options were limited. If you eat packaged or restaurant foods, your experience may differ, but the reviews do not support relying on Cal AI for detailed recipe or special-diet tracking.
I thought I had a trial period. I was charged $27 for a full year. This app isn't worth $5. The AI search is often wrong & hangs. Eating home made recipes you add each ingredient one by one. If you use ground turkey you have to edit every meal and then the calorie, fat and protein count isn't correct. Actually almost everything is incorrect. Even the canned and boxed food counts were wrong. This only gives approximate numbers. It's too much work for special diets. Restaurant meals may be okay.
food database limited and not enough portion size options. The app is asking me for details on some of the foods. gotta be better apps out there
Great app but there's a bug when you create meal. The serving multiplier doesn't seem to work properly. For example, if I want 1.5 servings of a certain item in my meal and I create the meal with that 1.5 servings, it'll calculate the macros and calories correctly for that meal. However, when I add that meal to my day, it seems the multiplier defaults to 1 serving so the calories and macros are off.

Is Cal AI - Food Calorie Tracker customer support helpful?
The reviews that mention support are mostly unfavorable. Users describe unresolved refund issues, no response to support emails, and support that did not help with lost streaks or app problems. The available reviews do not provide much evidence that support reliably fixes account, refund, or tracking issues.
This app reset my streak for no reason. I have a record in the app itself that shows I logged my food, but it decided to reset anyway. Customer service was no help at all. I work hard to be consistent. Thats the whole point of diet and exercise. If the app can't recognize that, and arbitrarily resets or "forgets" progress, I have no use for it.
After weeks of use, this app has become buggy and slow to load. Despite religiously entering my meals every day, I also kept losing my streak. I tried raising my concern through the support email feature, but I never received a response. Definitely a disappointing experience and a waste of subscription.
terrible app and garbage customer support i have a problem with this app and they said they would look into it when I messaged them back 2 weeks later because I didn't hear anything from them they ignored me and didn't respond
