NJ TRANSIT Mobile App — FAQ

Is NJ TRANSIT Mobile App a scam?

The reviews do not prove that NJ TRANSIT Mobile App is an intentional scam, but they do raise serious money-risk complaints. Recent reviewers say they were charged without receiving tickets, lost access to paid passes after compatibility changes, or could not reach tickets they had already bought, so a prospective user should be cautious about relying on it for paid fares.

This app is an absolute scam! After receiving my digital monthly bus passes on it for years on my Samsung anroid phone without warning the app apparently isn't compatible with my device anymore, when I tried to update to the new version it can't & my monthly pass was already sent & paid for $64 but I can't get it. Now I have to purchase a second pass for $64 which will cost me a total of $124 for a 1 zone! Is this what the developers & transit does, steal off of people. I will be reporting this!

Is NJ TRANSIT Mobile App legit?

NJ TRANSIT Mobile App appears to be a real transit app for planning trips and managing tickets, and a few reviewers say it can do the basics. However, the recent review sample is dominated by reliability, usability, compatibility, and ticket-purchase complaints, so “legit” should not be confused with dependable in its current state.

I mean its alright. Does what you need it to do. It has negatives though. 1) DepartureVision on the app is garbage now. 2) Viewing the trip that your on is a literal nightmare. Gotta remember what train you're on and its next stop to find the info again. 3) Viewing for future times is also trash. The app will soft-lock you if it thinks there's no more departures scheduled to your destination regardless of day. 4) The app signing you out each time you go to buy a ticket is just the topper.

Can I buy tickets with NJ TRANSIT Mobile App?

Ticket buying is one of the biggest pain points in the reviews. Some users say ticketing still works for them, but many recent reviewers report that they cannot buy tickets, get server errors, see blank purchase screens, or even get charged without receiving a ticket.

Tried buying a ticket and encountered a server error. Still got charged and didn't actually get the ticket. Garbage app

Why does NJ TRANSIT Mobile App say my device is not compatible?

Many recent Android users say the updated NJ TRANSIT Mobile App suddenly became incompatible with phones that had worked before, including devices described as only a few years old. Reviewers also say this blocks them from updating, reinstalling, buying tickets, or accessing tickets they already paid for.

When in the Google Play Store, the NJ Transit app was unavailable to update. I could only open the previous version. Instead, I see an error message that states: This app isn't compatible with this device anymore. Contact the developer. I have a Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G, Android version 12.

Is the new NJ TRANSIT Mobile App update worse than the old version?

Recent reviewers overwhelmingly describe the newer app design as a downgrade. Common complaints include more taps, confusing navigation, removed features, harder schedule lookup, and a desire to return to the previous version.

The newest update is a massive downgrade. I can't point to a single feature that has improved, but I can easily name several useful features that were completely removed. That is not how you handle an app rollout—at the bare minimum, a new version should maintain functional parity with the old one. On top of the missing features, the new UX is extremely poor and frustrating to navigate. I would much prefer to just have the older version back.

Are NJ TRANSIT Mobile App schedules and real-time updates accurate?

The reviews suggest users should not fully trust the app’s schedule and real-time information. Reviewers report wrong times, missing buses, canceled trains not appearing, confusing train screens, and arrivals disappearing from the app.

updates are not real time, trains get canceled and it doesn't appear on the app. It keeps tracking the train by time not real movements. Nj transit in general is horrible any type of weather conditions and everything goes in the trash but they want to charge over $200 for a monthly pass.

What happened to DepartureVision in NJ TRANSIT Mobile App?

Reviewers say DepartureVision became harder to use after the update, with some calling it worse, hard to find, or effectively replaced by less useful train information screens. Several also complain that saving regular routes and viewing full timetables is no longer easy or possible.

Terrible New UI. I cannot fathom the reason NJ would roll out an update that removes every useful feature of the original and makes the remaining features significantly inconvenient to use. I used to be able to easily save my regular routes - my starting HLBR station to my work station and reverse - so that I could view the timetable for train arrivals with one click. There is no longer an ability to save your routes for ease of use. There is no way to view the full timetable of a train route.

Does NJ TRANSIT Mobile App keep logging users out?

Yes, several reviewers say the app logs them out at bad moments, including while activating or showing tickets and when trying to buy tickets. That is a major issue for a transit ticketing app because it can happen during boarding or a commute.

New version of the app doesn't allow you to look at the next morning's schedule, common things like buying and using tickets are now buried, takes more clicks. Often i open the app, log in, and when i go to show the conductor it logs me out. Even the conductors hate the downgrades. It's impossible to get information out of it now, it even stopped alerting issues. Whoever redesigned this app should find a different career far from IT. I'd be ashamed of myself if I made this. Support is great thou
