Is F1 TV broken after the latest update?
Recent reviews strongly suggest that many Android and Android TV users hit serious playback problems after a recent update. Reviewers describe stuttering, freezing, buffering, crashes, playback errors, and streams becoming unwatchable, including on phones, tablets, Nvidia Shield, Google TV, and TV apps. A few users say it previously worked well for years, which makes the update a common dividing line in the complaints.
😠😤😡 This was a perfectly working app for years, now with the release on August 18, it is unusable. Video is stuttering to the point of leading to an error. And this is on an Nvidia Shield TV. I can no longer watch F1 on my TV. If they fix this I'll update my review, if not, then I'm looking at a refund from F1 as there is no way I'm watching this sitting in front of a desktop computer.
The latest update makes it unwatchable. It can't go more than 10s without lagging and then freezing. It's impossible to watch the races. Very disappointing for an app whose only job is to play videos. And you can't watch it on mobile on the website either so now I'm paying for a service I can't use!
fix your app. After the last update nothing runs smoothly. lagging, glitchy, kicked out mid race. love the sport and everything around it but not the tv app

Why can't I change video quality or resolution in F1 TV?
Reviewers repeatedly say F1 TV removed the manual video quality, bitrate, or resolution selector. They describe this as a downgrade because automatic quality can get stuck at low resolution, freeze on weaker connections, or use more mobile data than expected. The complaints are not just about picture quality; reviewers say losing manual control made the app less reliable for live races.
They removed the option to select the video quality and resolution in the app and on desktop. The maximum quality/bitrate was always very poor, but borderline watchable. Now the streams look like 480p. This is 100% done to save money. The 'auto' quality setting was always bad and had nothing to do with bandwidth. Doing this after collecting all the yearly subscription fees for this season, feels like a scam. They should add a 4K option for all subscribers on all platforms - not downgrade 1080p.
The recent update removed the ability to choose the streaming bit rate. this was a horrible decision. It renders the app basically useless in places where the connection is limited. I pay the full subscription but now this app is useless for me most of the time.
WHY DID YOU REMOVE THE STREAM QUALITY OPTION???????

Does F1 TV work well on Chromecast, casting, or TV devices?
Reviews are especially negative about casting and TV-device playback. Users report Chromecast and screen-casting failures, resets when returning to controls, buffering that does not recover, full-screen problems, and device-specific errors on Chromecast with Google TV, Google TV Streamer, Nvidia Shield, LG TV, Samsung TV, Fire Stick, and Android TV. One positive review says it works great on a Samsung phone and Fire Stick, but the recent complaint pattern is much more about instability on TV setups.
Casting functionality is very bad. Language cannot be selected. If you leave the app and want to go back to the controls the castings resets. also syncing issues with viaplay.
Not working on my Chromecast with Google TV anymore. I'm getting TM4015 error. This will be the last year I'm subscribing.
Incredibly bad casting experience. It's always been bad but since the latest update, it's worse than ever. It frequently stops streaming and says "buffering" indefinitely. Restarting fixes it, so the problem is clearly not a bad network but a buggy app.

Does F1 TV have picture-in-picture on Android?
Recent reviews indicate that picture-in-picture support is unreliable or not consistently available. Several reviewers say PiP briefly appeared and then disappeared, while others say it still does not function. One positive reviewer liked the app but still called the lack of PiP disappointing for a paid app.
Oh joy. It appears PiP support was something they briefly, accidentally enabled? It worked a few times, but no longer. So the last major update just removed other options. Thanks.
wow, they finally did PiP only to remove it after a single race. back to one star you go.
Great app. The archives are my favorite part. Can watch replays of full races going back decades, including race highlights and qualifying. Would give it 5 stars + if it had PIP hopefully it can be added down the road. Works great on my Samsung phone and my Fire Stick. It's highly recommended if you're an F1 fan. Update a couple of days ago around the Dutch Grand Prix I had PIP. It has since gone away. Is it coming back?? I always thought for a paid app not to have it was disappointing.

Is F1 TV good for watching old races and replays?
The archive and replay content is one of the clearest positives in the reviews. A reviewer praises full-race replays going back decades, highlights, and qualifying. However, other replay-focused reviews warn that the app can spoil results through featured tiles, descriptions, autoplay into live coverage, or by not saving playback position reliably.

love that I can watch the archive, and the price is so affordable, but there's no option to hide spoilers!! As I go through the archive and select a race, the winner should not be the featured tile, or mentioned anywhere in the description. So disappointed as a new fan to F1 to have the races spoiled. Also the app is pretty buggy in terms of controls not being consistent, casting button only showing sometimes, etc.
Please! Disable auto-play, especially of live events. I was catching up on P1, and when it finished the app cut to live Post Sprint race coverage.. ruining sprint qualifying and the sprint race.

Does F1 TV use too much mobile data?
The reviews raise a real mobile-data concern after the removal of manual quality controls. Users who watch on cellular data say they can no longer cap video quality, reduce bitrate, or choose a lower resolution, which makes the app harder to use on limited data plans. Some also say automatic quality still stutters or glitches despite using more data.
The new update is terrible! I use my phone data for this service. Until this latest update I was able to select the picture quality. Now there is no option and it's eating up all of my data. As well the auto picture is not even smooth and keeps glitching. If you intend to use data, do not waste your money. I will not renew my subscription next year unless this option is returned.
Recent update removed the ability to set/reduce/increase video quality. It has become terrible and a huge drain on my data plan. I do not know of any serious video platform that does not have this option. I'm now having to pick and choose the sessions I can watch as a result, and I am now considering cancelling my subscription.
The quality selector has been removed. At 90GB per race I cannot justify using this app.

Are there audio, commentary, or language problems in F1 TV?
Several reviews mention sound and commentary problems. Users report missing commentary options, audio tracks changing in picture-in-picture, sound disappearing after the update, choppy sound, no sound through Android Auto or some Bluetooth devices, and language selection problems while casting. If choosing commentary language or reliable audio is important, the recent reviews are a warning sign.
New update needs to be pulled! Who tested this? Lags on android tv. Why did all commentary options vanish? I'm in Portugal why is spanish my only other option? Why did all quality options vanished? at least chromecast works.
the only app I used for as long as I remember that always have some sound issues (( so sad to post it, but just giving up on it now... huge f1 fan, love the app features and content, but can play anything on the android auto while traveling or on some Bluetooth devices (speakers), just no sound! any other apps work perfectly but the F1 TV! so mad! pinnacle of technology and innovation as a sport, but can't figure out the freaking audio playback in 2026!!!???
Constant issues with sound disappearing with the last update

Is it hard to subscribe to, sync, or cancel F1 TV?
Subscription-related reviews are mixed but concerning. Reviewers describe Google Play subscription sync problems, being prompted to pay again, confusing subscription instructions, buying the wrong subscription, and difficulty canceling. The app description points users to the F1 TV help centre for support, but the reviews show that subscription handling can be a pain point, especially when Google Play and F1 TV do not appear to agree on subscription status.
Subscription syncing issues with google play. It has happened twice now, that I had to fix my subscription via google play. I fix my payment, it goes through. I receive a receipt and all. But the F1 TV app claims I don't have a subscription. Solution, twice now: subscribing AGAIN via the app and thus paying twice. Then cancelling the other active subscription (because now I have 2 active subscriptions ....) Very annoying. And the F1 tv app is the only app where I ever have this type of issue.
can not use can not cancel. the tgeives at f1tv say tgey cant find my subscription to cancel it but have continued to charge me monthly since 2023. google will not cancel. this is theft
It's too confusing to subscribe on this app and there's no clear instructions. It's so laggy too every time I want to read the terms and conditions of the subscription and now I made a mistake by purchasing the wrong subscription which can't be refunded😭😭

Why does F1 TV show error codes like TM4015, TM307, TM1, or TM2006?
The reviews do not give a confirmed fix for these error codes, but they show that users are seeing them during playback or on TV devices. Reported codes include TM4015 on Chromecast with Google TV, TM307 with no explanation, TM1 after a few minutes of streaming, and TM2006 on Google TV Streamer. Some reviewers say clearing cache, reinstalling, restarting, or changing networks did not solve their playback issue.
Not working on my Chromecast with Google TV anymore. I'm getting TM4015 error. This will be the last year I'm subscribing.
terrible app, get error TM307 with no explanation what's wrong
Doesn't work. Full of errors. Can't stream live races. Keeps trying to have you sign up (and pay) over and over. ---- new review, new bugs... now it doesn't work on the google tv streamer & just gets error tm2006 over and over on every video (live or otherwise). all the support says "turn off multiplay" but that option isn't even on the google tv streamer. boy I sure enjoyed having to delete the cache and all saved data on my Google TV just to be able to watch the stream I'm paying for!!!
