Amazon Photos: Photo & Video — FAQ

Is Amazon Photos storage really unlimited and free?

Photo storage is genuinely unlimited for full-resolution photos, but that's tied specifically to an active Amazon Prime membership — it isn't a permanent, standalone free tier, and at least one long-time reviewer describes being surprised by a storage warning after years of assuming it was unconditional. Video storage is separately capped even with Prime, so 'unlimited' applies to photos specifically, not everything you upload.

I've been using it for years. and just yesterday it said I was running out of video storage. The information about the application says unlimited storage as long as I remain an Amazon Prime subscriber. I was initially taken aback by the message... But let's face it the application is called "Amazon photos" so really I should be over the moon it stores any of my (phone camera) videos. let alone just st how many there was! I do however need to slowly go through them all and label who's who

Why does Amazon Photos automatically save every photo I look at?

A specific complaint from reviewers is that the app saves anything you view or receive — including other people's photos, stickers, and GIFs shared with you — into your own storage without asking first, which can quietly eat into your space. This appears to be default behavior rather than a bug, so it's worth checking the app's auto-save and folder settings if you don't want everything you touch kept permanently.

it's great to have a back up for my photos. What I don't like is that every photo I even look at gets downloaded and saved. I really don't want other people's photos and every gif or sticker saved and taking up space in my storage.

Can I get more video storage in Amazon Photos?

Yes, but it isn't included the way photo storage is — Prime members get unlimited photo storage but only a limited amount of video storage (5 GB, per reviewers), and going beyond that requires a separate paid storage plan. If you store a lot of video, plan for that cap rather than assuming Prime covers it the same way it covers photos.

Amazon Photos is unlimited for photos with an Amazon Prime membership, but only 5 GB for videos. It’s a Prime benefit rather than a separate free service. Just thought people should know.

Is it safe to share photos through Amazon Photos?

Most reviewers who use the sharing and family-vault features report no issues. But there's a pointed complaint that sharing a photo generates a link that funnels the recipient toward creating an Amazon account rather than a simple, no-strings share, which at least one reviewer felt crossed into pushing Amazon's own growth at the expense of a straightforward sharing experience.

Why a shareable link? this is illegally monopolizing people into Amazon I want to share some photos not free advertising for Amazon don't trust this app.
